Some Dante's Inferno Gameplay Footage Written Friday, July 03, 2009 by Dan Webb There stands a good chance that the vast majority of readers out there have yet to see Dante's Inferno in action up until now. Heck, we hadn't until we stepped foot into a small back room in EA's booth at this year's E3. Finally though, thanks to GameTrailers, we can share some of the gameplay we were bombarded with, with you the readers at home. For me the most interesting part will be how they transfer a fantastic piece of writing into what is looking like a great video game, but i'm guessing at least 95% of people who play this will never have read the book. |

Instead of just stepping back and playing it as a video game you're trying to play a video game as a piece of literature. I saw the whole episode on Gametrailers and it looks like it's going to be a great game for next year. And even though the comparison for God of War can be made they're two worlds apart on subject matter. |

Take out the fact that he's a scholar and has no weapons or battles of any kind, and there you go. As long as details, character, historical figures from the book are all there, I can forgive the obvious liberties with the material. If we're going to make classical literature into games, can we make one for the Illiad or Oedipus? And, like 28 said, in LEGO glory!!!! |

Throw in the recently announced Sherlock Holmes v. Jack the Ripper and more Objectivist philosophy in BioShock 2 and my academic side is appeased at the sime time as my geek side. Perhaps more designers should look at literature for inspiration. Either that or keep making games with busty hot chicks. |

If they portray each of the 9 circles well, then holy crap are we in for a treat. I applaud Visceral for taking a chance with The Divine Comedy, I really do. There's a reason it hasn't been done before as far as I know (except for The Lost but that never got published) and that's because it'd be so hard to do properly. I think what they've done is create the most entertaining way to experience The Inferno that I can imagine, I just hope it lives up to my expectations the way Dead Space did. |
