LucasArts and TT Announce New LEGO Star Wars Title

LucasArts and TT Announce New LEGO Star Wars Title
Written Monday, February 08, 2010 by Richard Walker

LucasArts and TT Games are collaborating on bringing the latest in the LEGO Star Wars franchise entitled LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, to life, bringing "all new gameplay and features never before seen in a LEGO game" according to President of LucasArts, Darrell Rodriguez.

He added that, "the LEGO Star Wars franchise is a massive hit with fans, bringing in sales of over 20 million units worldwide. We’re thrilled to extend this experience to LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars, delivering the humour and fun players expect from this award winning franchise."

What the supposed "all new gameplay features" will be is currently unknown, but it's encouraging to see LucasArts lending their substantial Star Wars experience to the project.

Mini plastic lightsabers at the ready for Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars' release this Autumn.

@#1 Over 25% of Lego's fanbase, including me, are adults. And no, Lego is not a toy intended for children under 3.

However, I hate the clone wars, so I'll probably avoid this game. The Lego games made by TT are always funny and good, but I'll probably pass on this one.

See I'm cool with lego star wars, lego Indy & lego Harry Potter...

Lego Rock band on the other hand is the true beating of a dead horse in the franchise. I mean seriously...

Monday, February 08, 2010 @ 09:30:55 AM

Is it just me or they "flogging a dead horse" with the Lego games and more importantly the Clone Wars storyline? Personally, I'd like to see them start getting into an untapped resource; the books.
Here's an idea (less with Lego and more with Star Wars) that will probably get responses about it being from different developers and off-topic. Make a game based on Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn trilogy" with the mechanics of The Force Unleashed (for the force user controls), and some good shooter controls(non-force user) and flight controls(guess what that's for) in an expansive Shooter/RPG style made famous by Bioware's Mass Effect series. Crash and burn or must buy???

I don't think LucasArts actually makes games. That's why Tt makes them for them. I agree that we need a BattleFront3, especially since noone can play 1 or 2 online come april and you have to resort to the PSP game for that.

Monday, February 08, 2010 @ 10:18:11 AM

@ #19/22

I like your idea, but there's a bit of a problem with making anything out of the extended universe. Most of the casual Star Wars fans aren't aware what the "Thrawn Trilogy" really is. Sure the diehards would be enthusiastic about such an idea, but do you think they would bring in enough money to make such an idea economically feasible?

Lego Clone Wars is a safe bet. The Lego Star Wars formula is an undeniable success, and the Clone Wars series is developing a lot of followers. This will be a financial success, and that's the most important factor.

Monday, February 08, 2010 @ 10:18:48 AM

agreed, they should do another battlefront, but the lego SW games have been pretty solid, and this game will probably be more successful than the other recent clone wars game, which was pretty terrible.

Yes, we would all love a new Battlefront game instead of Lego Star Wars, but you do realize that a Lego game is probably easier to make and will probably sell more.

I adore Lego Star Wars 1+2 (and Complete for that matter), but wasn't a fan of Batman or Indy. I hope this game can deliver.

Cant they just kill off the star wars side of this yet? I prefer different movie based ones each year than this same drival! All of the SW ones seem the same to me, wheres as Indy, Hp and espescially Batman all have something different to add.

@33- Thanks for the feedback. You make a good point. To answer your question, The Force Unleashed was a completely new idea. Introducing the extended universe to gamers would feel like something new as well. I think the Star Wars name is what sells. Of course good reviews from gaming sources helps a lot too! :)

He's not implying LEGO is for 3 year olds, he's refering to the choking hazard warning people against giving legos to toddlers...no need to protect your precious brick empire.

@17,21,27,28,29,31,32,34,37,38,43,50

The 3rd Battlefront was being designed by Free Radical (007 Goldeneye & Perfect Dark when they worked for Rare, Timesplitters, Second Sight & Haze later), but they hit major financial woes, culminating in the company losing more than 3/4 of it's staff, being bought by the german devs Crytek (Crysis) and re-named "Crytek UK".

cont. from #56
At some point during FR's final days they lost the rights to make BF III. It was rumored that Pandemic (makers of the first two games) would get a crack at it, but they denied this, claiming that the game was in limbo without a home.

Repeating what was mentioned somewhere above me, Pandemic is dealing with a similair situation; a hefty portion of their staff have been eliminated and now I believe the remaing employees (all 35 of them) have been folded into EA's LA branch.

So, with both of these companies broken, recycled and forgotten about (which is unfortunate, because they were two of my favorites), the most likely candidate appears to be Rebellion Studios (the group behind the PSP Battlefront released not so long ago).

I think there's a petition to release BF

Monday, February 08, 2010 @ 12:49:28 PM

"I think there's a petition to release BF III wandering around the "extranet" somewhere." (I wish I could see the character limit while I was typing).

I've only ever owned the 1st LEGO Star Wars for orig. Xbox. I enjoyed it enough to finish more than once, but I don't think I could get into the series again.

@47
I was thinking the same thing. SW TFU (which without the "W" is the best acronym for a game, ever) had no prior existance before the game, but attracted a great audience (including friends of mine who didn't care about Star Wars), and KotOR proved how succesful content outside of the movies could be in the right hands. Your idea would have me drop $60 right now.

@60- well with you added that gives us 3 total fans of the idea! Unfortunately I think we need quite a few more to get the ball rolling! :)

I think a lot of the people who've posted wanting either Battlefront 3 or Republic Commando 2 would be fans as well if it were truly put into motion. The idea being that until it's seen in action, most would be unable to visualize the game, therefore unable to be excited about the idea.

Will people stop complaining about this and saying they should make Battlefront 3 instead, this is been made by TT and just published by Lucas Arts, LUCAS ARTS ARN'T MAKING THIS, as for Battlefront 3, I no longer want it, Pandemic Studios are gone so they can't make it, and Rebellion have only made them for the PSP and they have been poor quality IMO, and I can't think of anyone else who could make one without it becoming a totally diffrent game and loosing what made it fun.

@19 i love the timothy zhan "thrawn" trilogy... i always thought they would make excellent films let alone games, that would be awsome...

i have read quite a few star wars books that took place after original trilogy and they were all a very good read, i dont know why they keep doing this earlier stuff. surley it makes no sense, most of the star wars fans are fans because of original films and to me being a fairly big star wars fan myself wants to see more of the saga that took place after the emperor and vader died. enough rambling...

i dont like clone wars so this will be a no go for me...

I like Lego Games, but seriously, Clone Wars? Promote that loser Mary Sue?

Why not, try something ballsy LucasArts. Introduce kids to the expanded Universe with a Lego Game. Get some names out there no one outside a musky basement has heard of.

The Batman game had Hush and Nightwing. Ask a non comic reader who Nightwing is...

Oh wait, we can't, because Lucas spent a decade building the Expanded Universe to ignore it for the Clone Wars cash grab that never wants to end no matter how much we all hate it!

the game is simplistic, bland, and the game-play is way out dated. I enjoyed it when it first came out on past gen systems but now its just another series to milk. Kids play this for two reasons: Lego and Star Wars, not because its good, because they don't know any better. You game developers should quit ripping off kids and make a good game for a change, enough with this crap.
